Doble boiler

.: Please be patient
I am not
a web designer, so it's taking me an insane amount of time to create
these pages. I will be updating this page with as much information as I
can. Unlike the other pages, it will have as much detailed information
as I can possibly provide. It will have formulas, links to detailed
blueprints and the like as soon as I can get them up.
.: Technical Paper Presented by Abner Doble on
His Boiler Design
In October of
1916, Abner Doble presented a paper at a meeting on his boiler and
automobile designs. You can read a transcript of his reading here,
which also includes the questions asked of Mr. Doble at the meeting.
There's information on the vehicle weight (3100 lbs.) and the warm up
time (5.5 seconds) as well as performance and emissions information.
.: Rough cutaway illustration

Sorry
that looks so terrible on the screen, but again, I'm not a webdesigner,
and there's only so much one can do with templates when you don't know
much about HTML. You can see the fullsize image here.
A PDF version is here.
The DWG
version, and the DXF
version.
.: Mockup Engine Plans
I'm
planning on converting an old pushmower I've got around here to steam
as a testbed, to work out as many of the kinks as I can, before I get
to work on the car. Since there's no blueprints of the Stanley Steamer
engines available for sale, I've been digging around on the internet
looking for small steam engine plans that I can use. These
plans (WARNING PDF!) look fairly simple, and quick to build,
so as soon as I can, I'm going to build that, a boiler, and mount them
on the pushmower. I hope to be able to start on that here in the near
future. I will post photos, and detailed instructions once I start
working on the engine.
.: Graduate Paper on the Value of Steam
Power
Everyone
thinks that in the case of locomotives, diesel engines (which are used
to power
electric motors, and are like hybrid cars in how they operate) are
superior. A
graduate paper (WARNING! PDF!) which proves that steam powered locomotives are more effcient than diesels.

Thank you!
Thank
you
for
paying attention this far. The site's always under construction, so
check back often for updates (click "Latest News" to read my blog). I
apologize if it seems like nothing ever changes, but I am not
a web designer, and unless I can get someone to volunteer to take over
handling the website, its going to take me a while to make big changes
to this site.
